Congress Leader Offers Condolences

Chandigarh: On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the family of Y Puran Kumar, a Haryana IPS officer who was discovered dead from a gunshot wound at his home in Chandigarh earlier this week. The circumstances surrounding his death, which is being treated as a suspected suicide, have raised significant alarm throughout the state.

Upon his arrival at the airport, Gandhi made his way to Kumar's residence in Sector 24 at 11:08 AM to extend his sympathies.

During his visit, he laid a floral tribute to the deceased officer and engaged in conversation with the grieving family.

This visit by the former Congress president comes in the wake of intensified criticism directed at the Haryana government regarding the circumstances of Kumar's alleged suicide.

Kumar, who was part of the 2001 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), reportedly took his own life on October 7.

In an eight-page note believed to have been written by him, the 52-year-old accused eight senior IPS officials, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and the recently transferred Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, of severe caste-based discrimination, mental harassment, public humiliation, and other atrocities.

The officer's wife, Amneet P Kumar, a senior IAS officer, has called for Kapur and Bijarniya to be included in the FIR for allegedly contributing to her husband's suicide.

The family is also demanding their arrest and has refused to allow a postmortem or cremation until their requests are met.

Numerous political figures from various parties have been visiting Kumar's family in Chandigarh to offer their condolences.

Gandhi was joined by former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana Congress chief Rao Narender Singh, and other party leaders including Kumari Selja, BK Hariprasad, Deepender Singh Hooda, and Varun Chaudhry.
